This is a fully adjustable sterling silver spinning dorje (in Tibetan) or vajra (in Sanskrit) ring, hand-crafted in the Patan (Lalitpur) district of Kathmandu. The tapered ring bands allow the ring to be adjusted to fit almost any size finger (please see the Size Information below). The ingenious design allows the dorje to spin freely with a satisfying whirr , when spun with the flick of a finger, or to roll slowly when turned gently. If you re anything like us, you ll find yourself rolling and spinning your dorje ring all through your day.
The 18mm (0.7 ) long dorje is inlaid with alternating Tibetan turquoise and coral gemstones and is set into the 92.5% sterling silver body of the ring, flanked by 7mm x 8mm (0.27 x0.3 ) coral gemstones and decorative silver braiding.
Symbolism & Legend
In the Hindu scriptures, the vajra is the mighty thunderbolt weapon of Indra, god of rain and thunder. In Tibetan Buddhism the vajra or dorje symbolises both the thunderbolt of Enlightenment and the indestructibility of diamond – signifying spiritual strength and resilience.
The Vedas describe Indra s vajra as an open-pronged weapon and, according to Buddhist legend, the Buddha took the vajra from Indra and closed it s prongs together, turning the once fearful weapon into a sceptre symbolising spiritual power, balance and harmony.
